April 11, 2013
WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's tennis program (14-4) increased its home record to 6-1 after defeating UMBC, 6-1, on Wednesday afternoon. The Hoyas have won seven consecutive matches. The Retrievers only had five players, thus defaulting two matches at third doubles and sixth singles. Victoria Sekely (Mississaga, Ontario/Lone Park Secondary School) and Sophie Panarese (Milton, Mass./Milton Academy) teamed up for an 8-3 win at one doubles giving GU the early 1-0 advantage. In the singles competition both Sekely and Madeline Jaeger (Laguna Beach, Calif./Laguna Beach) made quick work of their opponents, winning in straight sets. Sekely won her 10th match at first singles, 6-4, 6-1 and Jaeger earned her 10th singles dual match victory, 6-0, 6-0. Two three set matches went the Hoyas way as Panarese won 6-4, 1-6, 6-1 on court three and Taylor Perz (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) won on court five, 4-6, 7-6 (10), 6-3. For Panarese it was her seventh consecutive singles victory and her team leading 12th in dual matches. Perz has won seven of her last 10 singles matches.
