Women's Tennis Blanks Villanova in Final Home Contest

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's tennis team finished off a strong regular season campaign with a 7-0 win over the Villanova University Wildcats on Saturday at the McDonough Outdoor Tennis Complex. The Hoyas have won eight-consecutive matches and nine of their last ten to finish the regular season with a mark of 15-5 overall and 5-2 in BIG EAST Conference play.
The Hoyas made quick work of the Wildcats in doubles play. The No. 2 pair of sophomore Tina Tehrani (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) and junior Vicky Sekely (Mississaga, Ontario/Lorne Park Secondary School) blanked their opponent, 8-0, before freshman Sophie Panarese (Milton, Mass./Milton Academy) and sophomore Madeline Jaeger (Laguna Beach, Calif./Laguna Beach) won, 8-3, at No. 3. At No. 1, senior Lauren Greco (Oakmont, Pa./Shady Side Academy) and sophomore Kelly Comolli (Newburyport, Mass./Philips Exeter Academy) battled to the 7-6 victory.
In singles play, Tehrani once again started it out with the 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 2. Greco came out on top at No. 1, 6-1, 6-3, before Sekely clinched 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3.
Comolli battled to the three-set victory at No. 4, 6-4, 6-7, 10-5 and Panarese won at No. 6 by a score of 6-1, 6-2. Jaeger rounded it out with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 5 to make the final 7-0.
Tehrani has won her last nine singles matches, while Jaeger has won her last five. The match marked Greco's last on the Hilltop.
The seedings for the 2012 BIG EAST Championship will be announced on Monday with play beginning on Thursday in Tampa, Fla., at the University of South Florida.
