No. 5 Hoyas Down No. 12 Pirates in BIG EAST Tournament
April 19, 2012 WASHINGTON - The No. 5 seed Georgetown University women's tennis team (16-5) toppled the No. 12 seed Seton Hall University Pirates, 4-0, in the first round of the BIG EAST Women's Tennis Championship on Thursday in Tampa, Fla. The Hoyas will move on to play No. 4 seed DePaul University Friday at noon at the Varsity Courts. In doubles play, the No. 2 pair of sophomore Tina Tehrani (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) and junior Vicky Sekely (Mississaga, Ontario/Lorne Park Secondary School) scored an 8-1 win while the No. 3 duo of freshman Sophie Panarese (Milton, Mass./Milton Academy) and sophomore Madeline Jaeger (Laguna Beach, Calif./Laguna Beach) won, 8-2, to gain the point for the Hoyas. Sekely kept rolling for the Blue & Gray with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 3 to make it 2-0. No. 2 Tehrani followed with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Seton Hall sophomore Rocio Portela for the match's third point and Jaeger finished the match with a 6-2, 6-2 win over SHU freshman Maria Rodriguez at No. 5.
