WASHINGTON - The seventh-seeded Georgetown University women's tennis team (15-8) finished its 2012-13 season with a 4-0 loss to ninth-seeded Cincinnati in the consolation round of the BIG EAST Championship. Georgetown amassed a 1-2 mark in the championship with a win over Providence and losses to Pitt and Cincinnati.
The Hoyas close their season with a 15-8 overall mark and a 3-3 record in conference play. GU built a 6-2 mark at home and was 7-2 in away matches. During the season the Hoyas recorded a seven match win streak, including a 4-3 win over then No. 33 William & Mary.
Cincinnati opened the match by winning two doubles matches on courts one and two. On court one GU's tandem of Victoria Sekely (Mississaga, Ontario/Lone Park Secondary School) and Elizabeth Hamlin (Haverford, Pa./The Episcopal School) fell 8-2 after court two's Kelly Comolli (Newburyport, Mass./Philips Exeter Academy) and Madeline Jaeger (Laguna Beach, Calif./Laguna Beach) lost 8-1.
In singles Georgetown's Hamlin had to retire on court five after losing the first set 6-1. Two straight set victories for the Bearcats closed out the match. Sophie Panarese (Milton, Mass./Milton Academy) lost to Cincy's Witte, 6-1, 6-3 on court three and the dual match was over when Comolli fell to O'Gara 6-1, 6-0 on court two.
The other singles matches went unfinished with Sekely playing one singles, Jaeger playing fourth and Taylor Perz (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) on court six.
