WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's tennis team went 2-0 in its final event of the fall before ITA Regionals. The Hoyas defeated George Mason University, 5-0, and Mount St. Mary's, 4-1, at the George Mason 3+2 on Saturday in Farifax, Va. The Blue & Gray looked strong winning nine of 10 matches.
Against the Patriots, the Hoyas won three singles matches and both doubles showdowns.
In singles play, junior Kelly Comolli (Newburyport, Mass./Philips Exeter Academy) won at No. 1 over Ashley Delaney 7-5, 6-3. At No. 2, junior Madeline Jaeger (Laguna Beach, Calif./Laguna Beach) defeated Erdenesuren Erdenebat by a score of 6-2, 6-3. Freshman Taylor Perz (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) was victorious at the No. 3 position over Ekaterina Desiatnikova 6-3, 6-1.
In doubles play, the pair of sophomore Sophie Panarese (Milton, Mass./Milton Academy) and graduate student Liz Hamlin won 6-3, 7-6(4) at No. 1. Senior Vicky Sekely (Mississaga, Ontario/Lorne Park Secondary School) and senior Michelle Pratt (Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo) won at No. 2 by a score of 6-4, 6-2.
The Hoyas defeated Mount St. Mary's, 4-1.
In the singles matches, Jaeger won at No. 1 over Samantha Pinchoff 6-3, 6-4. Perz also took the win at No. 2 against Kelly Conroy by a score of 6-3, 3-6, 10-5.
GU took two in doubles play with the pair of Panarese and Hamlin winning 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1, as well as the duo of Sekely and Comolli taking No. 2 with a 6-3, 6-1 decision.
Georgetown will finish fall play at ITA Regionals in Blacksburg, Va., October 18-23.
