WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's tennis team ended fall play this past weekend at ITA Atlantic Regionals in Blacksburg, Va., hosted by Virginia Tech University. The Hoyas had four singles players and two pairs competing at the event with both pairs winning matches.
In singles play, junior Kelly Comolli (Newburyport, Mass./Philips Exeter Academy) was the lone winner for the Blue & Gray. Comolli defeated Anik Cepeda from William & Mary by a score of 6-1, 1-6, 6-1 in the Main Draw of 64 to move on to the Round of 32. She fell in the next round to the University of Virginia's Li Xi with the 6-0, 6-2 decision. Xi was the second-seeded player in the tournament.
In doubles play, both Hoya pairs had victories.
The seeded duo of Comolli and senior Vicky Sekely (Mississaga, Ontario/Lorne Park Secondary School) had a first-round bye before defeating a pair from Temple University by a score of 8-4 in the Round of 32. The team lost in the Round of 16 to a pair from Virginia Commonwealth University, but made it further than any Hoya squad.
Also winning a match was the pair of junior Madeline Jaeger (Laguna Beach, Calif./Laguna Beach) and sophomore Sophie Panarese (Milton, Mass./Milton Academy). They defeated a team from Liberty University by a score of 8-0, before falling in the Round of 32 to a team from UVA with the 8-2 decision.
The Hoyas have closed out play for 2012 and will be back in action at the VCU 4+1 on January 18, 2013 in Richmond, Va.
