Women's Tennis Hosts St. John's in First BIG EAST Match

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown women’s tennis team (1-5, 0-0 BIG EAST) plays its first BIG EAST duals match of the spring on Fri., Feb. 7 at 11 a.m. when they host the St. John’s Red Storm at Yates Field House on the Hoyas’ campus.

The match will consist of three doubles matches followed by six singles matches.

After winning their first match of the new year on Jan. 17, the Hoyas have dropped four-straight as they look to get back on track with the start of BIG EAST competition.

Friday will be Georgetown’s first time playing at home since Oct. 6.

The Blue & Gray are led by senior co-captain Madeline Jaeger (Laguna Beach, Calif./Laguna Beach) who is 3-2 in singles play this spring.

Freshman Victoire Saperstein (Las Vegas, Nev./Odyssey Charter School) is on a two-match winning streak from the Hoyas’ matches against Boston College and Boston University last weekend.

Georgetown played St. John’s last season on Feb. 21 in Flushing Meadows, N.Y. St. John’s won the match 4-3. Georgetown’s Sophie Panarese (Milton, Mass./Milton Academy) won a singles match against current St. John’s senior Yanita Arnaudova, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.

St. John’s is 1-1 in duals play with a win against Fairfield, 5-2, and a loss at Princeton, 7-0, in 2014.
