Panarese Named BIG EAST Player of the Week as Hoyas Earn First-Ever National Ranking

WASHINGTON - Sophomore Sophie Panarese (Milton, Mass./Milton Academy) was named the BIG EAST Women's Tennis Player of the Week as the Hoyas earned the programs first-ever national ranking earning the No. 70 position from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association this week.
Panarese went 2-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles during the week as Georgetown went 2-0. The sophomore played a pivotal role in the Hoyas' win over No. 33 William & Mary. Panarese tied the match at 3-3 from the No. 4 position, claiming a 7-6 (1), 6-4 win and clinched the team win in doubles action with partner Taylor Perz 8-6. The sophomore also won 6-0, 6-1 from the No. 3 spot against Bryant and 8-3 in doubles action with Perz against James Madison.
Panarese's honor is the first for the program this season and the fourth under Head Coach Gordie Ernst.
Georgetown's national ranking is the first for the men's or women's program on the Hilltop. The Hoyas were catapulted into the rankings with the victory over No. 33 William & Mary and sitting at 9-4 in dual matches on the season.
Georgetown travels to Richmond on Thursday, March 21, for a match with the Spiders. Match time is still to be determined.
