Greco Earns GU's First Ever BIG EAST Tennis Player of the Week Honor

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University women's tennis junior Lauren Greco (Oakmont, Pa./Shady Side Academy) was named the BIG EAST Women's Tennis Player of the Week on Wednesday after going 4-0 in a pair of league matches. Greco is the first Hoya, male or female, to be named BIG EAST Player of the Week.
Greco went 4-0 last week, helping the Hoyas edge Rutgers, 4-3, April 9 and defeat Seton Hall, 6-1, on April 10. After being down 5-2 in the first set against RU, she battled back to claim a 7-5, 6-2 win in No. 2 singles. The junior followed the come-from-behind victory by retiring her Pirate opponent 7-5, 3-0 also at the No. 2 position.
In No. 2 doubles action, she paired with sophomore Vicky Sekely to beat the Scarlet Knights and the Pirates in successive 8-2 victories. Greco is 16-10 in singles this season, while Greco and Sekely improved to 5-0 in doubles.
On Tuesday, Greco and partner graduate student Stephanie Wetmore moved into the national rankings in doubles play. The pair is ranked No. 67 by the ITA in NCAA Division I tennis. They are currently 8-2 overall.
Georgetown faced Pittsburgh in a league match on Wednesday at the McDonough Outdoor Tennis Complex. The Hoyas are currently 9-8 overall and 5-1 in BIG EAST play.
