WASHINGTON – The Georgetown women’s tennis team recently hosted its annual end of the season banquet to celebrate its season and announce the team award winners. Head Coach Gordie Ernst presented this year’s top honors.
Freshman Victoire Saperstein (Las Vegas, Nev./Odyssey Charter School) was named the Most Valuable Player of the team for the 2013-14 year. Saperstein, who was recently named All-BIG EAST, went 11-8 on the season, including an 8-6 mark from the No. 1 position. The freshman took over the No. 1 spot in a match against Montana State which coincided with the team’s six-match winning streak. Saperstein also went 10-4 in doubles play this spring.
Senior co-captain Madeline Jaeger (Laguna Beach, Calif./Laguna Beach) received the Coaches Award for her hardwork and dedication to the program for four years. The senior went 9-13 on this spring with a 6-8 mark from the No. 3 position and a 3-3 record in the No. 4 spot. In addition, the senior leadership she provided as captain helped Georgetown earn a winning record.
The Hoyas ended their season with an 11-11 overall mark and a 4-3 record in BIG EAST play. Georgetown turned its season around when the team won six-straight matches from Feb. 22 to March 22.
