WASHINGTON - Georgetown University women's tennis player Tina Tehrani (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) was named the BIG EAST Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Month for September the league announced Thursday. Tehrani has had an outstanding start to her sophomore campaign as the Hoyas continue fall matches.

Tehrani produced an 8-0 singles record and a 6-1 doubles record in September, while winning two singles tournaments and one doubles event. She won the University of North Carolina Wilmington Fall Invitational Flight `A' with a 4-0 record, winning all matches in straight sets. Tehrani also was victorious in the Georgetown Classic, winning four additional straight-set singles matches, and teaming with freshman Sophie Panarese (Milton, Mass./Milton Academy) for the doubles title.

The sophomore had an impressive rookie season going 16-3 overall including a mark of 13-1 at No. 4 singles and 3-2 at No. 3. She finished the season on an 11-match win streak which is now at 19. In doubles play, Tehrani paired with Stephanie Wetmore at No. 1 as the duo posted a 9-1 record and had a six-match win streak.

Last season, the Hoyas had their first-ever BIG EAST Women's Tennis Player of the Week in the spring as then-junior Lauren Greco (Oakmont, Pa./Shady Side Academy) was honored. This is the program's first fall award.

The Hoyas will be in action this weekend at the George Mason 3+2 on Friday and Saturday.
