Shelia Burrell is beginning her first season as a member of the Georgetown University track & field coaching staff. Burrell will instruct the throws, jumps and multi-events, while also assisting with the sprints and hurdles.

Burrell adds world class competitive and coaching experience to the Hoya coaching staff. A 1996 graduate of the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), Burrell is one of the nation's best athletes, competing in the Heptathlon at the last two Olympic Games, including a fourth place finish in the 2004 Games in Athens, Greece. In addition to being a three-time All-American at UCLA, she is a five-time U.S. National Champion in the Heptathlon (1999, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004) and has placed second on two occasions (1998, 2000). At the 2001 World Championships, she won the bronze medal, becoming the only American since Jackie Joyner-Kersee to medal at an International championship.

A USA Track & Field Level One and Level Two certified coach in the sprints, hurdles and multi-events, Burrell spent the last two years as an assistant coach at San Diego Mesa College in San Diego, California, where she oversaw the sprint, hurdle and jump events. She successfully coached conference champions in the 100m, 100m hurdles, 400m hurdles and long jump.

Prior to Mesa, she was an assistant coach at Kansas State University from 2000-03 and Cal State University-Northridge from 1998-2000. At KSU, she assisted with the sprints and multi-events, helping the Wildcats to the 2001 and 2002 Big 12 Conference Women's Outdoor Championship title.

Burrell has also served as a sprint and hurdle clinician for various track camps and in 2006 successfully organized and directed a track & field clinic at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, California. In 2005, she began SheBe Gold Performance Exercise, an active health and fitness company that is geared towards improving the lifestyles of the everyday person with a youth athlete specific division geared towards sport specific speed and conditioning. Burrell has extensive knowledge and expertise in the area of speed and conditioning on all levels of performance, having worked with athletes from all sports including track & field, football, baseball, soccer, basketball and boxing.
