GU's Middle Distance and Distance Runners Dictate the Day at Penn State National

WASHINGTON - Sophomore Emily Infeld, a three-time All-American for the Hoyas, highlighted a spectacular day for the Hoyas as she ran an NCAA automatic qualifying time in the women's 3,000-meter invitational as she timed in at 9:09.24 to take third place today at the Penn State National in State College, Pa. The entire middle distance and distance contingent ran impressive times and continued its rich tradition with multiple competitors in each event placing high and running strong times.

Infeld wasn't too far behind former Hoya and four-time All-American Elizabeth Maloy who took second in the event as she competed with the New York Athletic Club, timing in at 9:07.77. Emily Jones and Natasha LaBeaud, two Hoyas running unattached, finished ninth (9:33.99) and 10th (9:34.75), respectively, in the event

In the men's 1,000-meter invitational, a trio of Hoyas, current and former, dominated the field as Alex Bean, Alex Mason and Mike Banks took first (2:23.35), second (2:23.98) and third (2:25.73), respectively. Toby Ulm walked away from today's competition with the top time in the men's 500-meter invitational, recording a 1:02.54. Bean's, Mason's and Ulm's times were all BE and IC4A marks.

The women's 1,000-meter invitational saw four Hoyas cross the finish line as All-American Renee Tomlin led the way in second place (2:44.46) followed by Avril Ogrodnick, running unattached, in fourth (2:48.72), Lauren Gregory and Lauren Borduin in eighth and ninth, respectively. All qualified for the BIG EAST and ECAC Championships.

 

 

The men's 3,000-meter invitational could have been mistaken for a Georgetown practice run as Hoyas took five of the top-10 places. Sandy Roberts took second with a time of 8:16.52 followed by Mike Krisch in third (8:17.70), Ben Furcht in fourth (8:19.85), Bobby Peavey in eighth (8:20.38) and Dylan Sorenson in 10th (8:30.19). All were BE and IC4A marks.

In the women's invitational mile, Lise Ogrodnick took fifth place with a BE and ECAC mark of 4:58.79 followed by Kirsten Kasper in eighth (5:04.23) to qualify for the BE Championship.

Five-time All-American Andrew Bumbalough led the way in the men's invitational mile with a sixth-place performance (4:05.88) while All-American Levi Miller took 13th (4:12.12) and Ayalew Taye took 14th (4:12.28) - all qualified for the BE and IC4A Championships.

All-American Liam Boylan-Pett took seventh in the men's 800-meter invitational with a time of 1:49.07) while Theon O'Connor took ninth in the event with a BE- and IC4A-qualifying time of 1:51.04.

Abigail Johnson was fourth in the women's 500-meter invitational (1:12.60) while Rachel Schneider took fifth in the women's 800-meter invitational with a time of 2:09.88. Nene Kamate continued her impressive weekend with a fifth-place performance (24.41) in the women's 200-meter invitational. All were BIG EAST and ECAC marks.

Kenny Mitchell's 21.77 in the men's 200-meter invitational was enough for a tie for sixth-place and qualifies him for both the BIG EAST and IC4A Championships.

The women's 4x800-meter relay took first place with a time of 9:03.72, an ECAC mark. The men's 4x800-meter relay squad timed in at 7:43.69 to take third place and an IC4A mark.

The women's 4x400-meter relay placed third with a time of 3:44.24 to hit an ECAC mark while the men's 4x400-meter relay squad finished fourth (3:14.71), an IC4A qualifier.
