Hoyas Run NCAA Regional Marks on First Day of ECAC / IC4A Championship

Washington, D.C. - After the first day of competition at the 2008 ECAC / IC4A Championship hosted by Princeton University in Princeton, N.J. the Georgetown track & field team tallied three NCAA Regional qualifying times. The men are currently in first place with 25 points after two events ran to completion, trailing behind the Hoyas in the top five are Syracuse (i18), Liberty (13), Bosont University (6) and William & Mary (5). The women are tied for sixth with eight points after three events behind Providence (18), Virginia (15), West Virginia (10), William & Mary (10) and Liberty (9).
Senior Daniel Nunn (San Luis Obispo, Calif./San Luis Obispo) was the first to cross the finish line donning the blue and gray in the men's 5000m as he timed in at 14:14.05 to win the event. Junior Mike Krisch (Hopkins, Minn./Hopkins) placed fifth with a time of 14:20.04, senior Justin Scheid (Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXII) finished ninth (14:26.18) while freshman Ayalew Taye (Portland, Maine/Cushing Academy) recorded a time of 14:38.66.
In the men's 3000m steeplechase, senior Michael Banks (Holden, Mass./Wachusset Regional) finished second with an NCAA Regional qualifying time of 8:57.85. Also picking up points for the Hoyas in the event was junior Alex Mason (Scottsdale, Ariz./Brophy Prep) who timed in at 9:02.82 for sixth place - another NCAA qualifying time for the Hoyas.
For the women, junior Natasha LaBeaud (Folsom, Calif./Folsom) placed third in the women's 5000m with a time of 16:43.31, an NCAA Regional qualifying time. Also competing in the event was junior Lise Ogrodnick (Beaconsfield, Quebec/Beaconsfield) whose time of 17:08.50 was enough for seventh place.
The Hoyas continue the three-day event tomorrow as they return to Weaver Stadium for the second day of competition at the ECAC / IC4A Championship.
