Georgetown Men Finish Third at IC4A Championships; Women Finish Fifth at ECAC Championships

Washington, D.C. - On the final day of competition at Weaver Stadium, the Georgetown track & field team participated in the ECAC / IC4A Championship hosted by Princeton University. The men finished third of 45 teams with 44 points. Liberty led the men's field with 62 points followed by Virginia (55), Georgetown, Syracuse (42) and Albany (39). For the women, Connecticut led with 83 points followed by Virginia (53), Cornell (43), William & Mary (41) and Georgetown (40).
Junior Kenny Mitchell (Atlanta, Ga./Weber) won the men's 100m dash with an NCAA Regional time of 10.50. Also winning their respective event was sophomore Abigail Johnson (Willingboro, N.J./Milton Hershey [Pa.]) who took top crown in the women's 400m dash with a time of 53.83 - also an NCAA Regional qualifying time.
Freshman Chris Kinney (Stockbridge, Ga./Stockbridge) also turned in an NCAA Regional qualifying time as he placed sixth in the men's 110m high hurdles with a time of 14.13. Sophomore Sandy Roberts (Raleigh, N.C./Broughton) placed seventh in the men's 1500m run, picking up points for Georgetown as he timed in at 3:49.46.
In the relays, the women's 4x400m relay squad comprised of freshman Kyla Cook (Concord, Mass./Concord Carlisle), freshman Deidra Sanders (Memphis, Tenn./Eastern), sophomore Sarah Wernik (Florence, Mass./Northampton) and Johnson placed second with a time of 3:43.72.
The women's 4x800m relay team took the top crown with a time of 8:48.70 while the men's 4x800m relay squad timed in at 7:36.01 to take fifth place overall.
The Hoyas return to competition on May 30-31 for the NCAA Regional Championship held in Tallahassee, Fla.
