Women's Cross Country Opens with Win at Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown women's cross country program opened the 2011 season with a team win at the Harry Groves Invitational hosted by Penn State in State College, Pa. The Hoyas also came away with the individual win as freshman Hannah Neczypor (North Royalton, Ohio/North Royalton) took first place, leading the GU runners to six of the top eight spots. Georgetown dominated the team competition with a mere 16 points for first place followed by Ohio University (84), Geneseo State (94), Mansfield (117), Penn State "B" (152), Youngstown State (157), Cortland State (165), Dickinson (167) and Westfield State (256).
Neczypor, in her first race representing the Blue & Gray, finished first with a time of 21.05, pacing 5:37/mile as all seven GU competitors paced less than a six-minute mile. Kirsten Kasper (North Andover, Mass./North Andover) finished second in the individual race with a time of 21:09 followed by graduate student Claire Richardson in third (21:09) and All-American Emily Jones (Harvard, Mass./Bromfield) in fourth (21:14).
Lauren Borduin (Columbia, Mo./Rock Bridge) was the fifth Hoya to cross the finish line as she timed in at 21:30 for sixth place with Joanna Stevens (Blacksburg, Va./Blacksburg) taking eight place (21:39).
The women continue competition on September 30 along with the men's team as they travel to Bethlehem, Pa., for the Paul Short Invitational.
