Georgetown Finishes Eighth at the USTCA Collegiate Invitational



The Georgetown University women's indoor track & field team ventured to University Park, Pa., to compete in the USTCA Collegiate Invitational, held Friday-Saturday, February 9-10, at the Penn State Multi-Sport Facility. The Hoyas earned an eighth place finish out of 12 teams competing.

Indiana won the meet with 102.33 points, followed by runner-up Penn State with 92 points. West Virginia was third with 71.33 points; Wisconsin took fourth place with 68; and Michigan was fifth with 64. Rounding out the rest of the field was: Ohio State (6th place, 63.5 points); Pittsburgh (7th place, 56 points); Georgetown (8th place, 41 points); Buffalo (9th place, 21 points); Manhattan (10th place, 18 points); Toronto (11th place, 15.33 points); Air Force Academy (12th place, 9.5 points).

Erin Sicher (So., College Park, Md./Good Counsel) was the lone GU winner at the two-day meet. Sicher won the mile run with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 4:46.05. Lorena Adams (Sr., Lakehurst, N.J./Manchester Township) earned runner-up honors in the 5000-meter run with an ECAC-qualifying mark of 17:08.28. Jill Laurendeau (So., Manchester, N.H./Manchester Central), Heather Blackard (Sr., Kirkland, Wash./Juanita) and Treniere Clement (Fr., Stow, Ohio/Stow-Monroe Falls) ran four-five-six in the 800-meter run, with all three women qualifying for ECAC competition. Laurendeau was the first Hoya across the finish line with a time of 2:11.35 for fourth place. Blackard's time of 2:11.70 was good for fifth place, while Clement's mark of 2:11.71 earned her sixth place.

Kristen Gordon (Sr., Alamo, Calif./Carondelet) ran to a fourth place finish in the 3000-meter run with a time ECAC-qualifying time of 9:51.39. Carly Nuzbach (So., Darien, Ill./Downers Grove South) recorded 10:01.14 to take eight place in the same race, while Erin Flynn's (Sr., Milton, Mass./Milton) time of 18:12.38 earned her the 10th spot in the 5000-meters.

Georgetown's distance medley relay team finished ninth with a time of 12:14.54. Wisconsin won the DMR in 11:28.30.
