Georgetown Track & Field Earns All-Academic Status

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown track & field program earned all-academic status on both the men's and women's side for the 2011 track & field season, encompassing both the indoor and outdoor seasons, as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The men's team was one of 90 squads to qualify for the annual honor while the women were one of 164 institutions to garner the accolades.
On the women's side, the BIG EAST Conference led all Division I conferences with 12 of its 16 institutions named USTFCCCA 2011 Division I Track & Field All-Academic Teams with Cincinnati, Connecticut, DePaul, Georgetown, Louisville, Marquette, Notre Dame, St. John's, South Florida, Syracuse, Villanova and West Virginia earning the honor.
The Georgetown men's team was one of seven BIG EAST Conference schools to be named all-academic joining Cincinnati. DePaul, Notre Dame, Rutgers, Syracuse and Villanova.
The track & field / cross country program will open the 2011-12 season with the beginning of cross country as the men open on Friday, September 9 at the Lou Onesty Open in Charlottesville, Va.
