Now in her second season, Sarah Cullen was named an assistant coach for the Hoyas in August 2011.
Cullen joined the Blue & Gray after spending 2010 as a volunteer assistant at the University of Pittsburgh.
"Sarah is a great addition to our staff and it is tremendous to add someone who has BIG EAST coaching experience," Williams said. "She has a passion for the game and an awareness of what being a student-athlete at this level is all about. Her knowledge of the BIG EAST as both a coach and a player will be a plus for us."
In two years at Pittsburgh, Cullen worked specifically with the defense and outside hitters. Other responsibilities included recording stats on the bench and Cullen was also instrumental with the 2011 summer camps, serving as Camp Director.
Prior to Pitt, Cullen spent four years as a starter on the volleyball team at BIG EAST member school DePaul University. As a Blue Demon, Cullen was named the program's Most Outstanding Player in 2009, leading the team in both kills and digs. Cullen immediately demonstrated her versatility on the court and served as DePaul's starting setter as a freshman, eventually moving back to the outside hitter position for her remaining three years. Having recorded an impressive 36 career double-doubles (kills-digs), Cullen finished her collegiate volleyball campaign with 1,151 digs, 964 kills, and 509 assists.
In the classroom, Cullen also held high academic standards while balancing collegiate athletics. She was named to the BIG EAST All-Academic Team and the DePaul Athletic Director's Academic Honor Roll all four years. She finished her undergraduate study with a 3.68 grade-point average, earning a degree in communications.
Cullen was a member of the AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tour and has worked with the strength and conditioning programs at both Northwestern University and Loyola (Ill.) University.
