Jake Lawrence enters his third season as an assistant coach with Georgetown Volleyball. With the Hoyas, Lawrence's primary duties are recruiting, scouting of opponents, organizing the team's offense and blocking and training the team's middle hitters. In his first season on the Hilltop, Lawrence helped guide Georgetown volleyball to one of the biggest turnarounds in program history, improving by nine games overall and six games in conference, going from 15th in the BIG EAST to eighth. In his second season, Vanessa Dorismond was named 2009 All-BIG EAST, the first Georgetown player given the honor in five years.
Prior to Georgetown, Lawrence served for two years as an assistant coach under Sherry Dunbar (2006) and Jason Kepner (2007) at College of Charleston. While there, Lawrence helped guide the Cougars to back-to-back Southern Conference titles, as they twice advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
The Cougars' experienced great individual success during Lawrence's stay, as they had seven players named to the All-Southern Conference team and the Southern Conference Freshman of the Year between 2006 and 2007. With Lawrence, College of Charleston's 2008 recruiting class was listed as a PrepVolleyball.com High Honorable mention and the team's 2007 GPA (3.4) was the highest of any team at College of Charleston that year.
Lawrence also serves as the head coach of the Virginia Elite 16-national team, leading the club to a top 30 finish at nationals and winning the Chesapeake Region Championship in 2009. In 2010, he led the club to a top 20 finish at nationals and won the Chesapeake Region Championship for a second straight year. The team had one player named to the USA Volleyball Youth National A2 team under Lawrence's direction.
Lawrence, a Pittsburgh, Pa. native, served as an undergraduate assistant coach at Xavier University, helping guide the Musketeers to a 2004 Atlantic 10 Championship. He also served as the head coach for Team Z Volleyball Club, an elite Junior Olympics team in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Lawrence graduated from Xavier University with a bachelor of arts in political science in 2006.
