Georgetown Volleyball Defeats Hampton in Straight Sets, 3-0

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Freshman middle blocker Lindsay Wise (Raleigh, N.C./Raleigh Charter) hit .727 with eight kills and sophomore outside hitter Sara Manley (Dove Canyon, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic) had 11 kills, as the Georgetown University volleyball team (3-2) defeated Hampton, 3-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Georgetown Classic at McDonough Arena.
The Hoyas took control early in the first set, as three Hampton attack errors enabled GU to open a 8-4 lead. Georgetown continued to take advantage of miscues, opening a 15-8 lead. The Pirates would not be able to close within six, as Georgetown rolled to a 25-17 first set victory.
Robinson served the Hoyas out to a 4-0 lead to begin the second set, before Hampton closed to within two at 6-4. Georgetown would slowly extend the lead with a series of small runs, opening a five-point lead at 18-13 behind a Manley kill. Hampton would get as close as four at 21-17, but the Hoyas would score the next four, as Robinson had two late kills to seal a 25-17 second set victory.
In the third set, Georgetown went on a nine-point run behind the service of Malone to take a 16-6 lead; Hampton was never able to get back in the set, as Georgetown was able to clinch the set and match with a 25-12 third set victory.
