In the first set the Hoyas and Explorers traded points early until Paris Coleman served GU on a 9-0 run to open a 16-7 lead. Dorismond had three kills during the run that put the Hoyas out in front for good. LaSalle would not be able to close within five points, as the Blue and Gray went on to win the first set 25-18.
LaSalle took an early 3-1 lead, but a kill from Courtney Cohen (Tampa, Fla./Berkeley Prep) and a service ace from Tory Rezin (Morris, Ill./Morris) tied the score. The Explorers would not let the Hoyas pull away. After the Hoyas built a three point, 11-8 lead, LaSalle answered going on a 9-3 run to take a 17-13 lead, the biggest of the set at that point. Wise came on strong for Georgetown with three kills during a 5-1 run to help Georgetown tie the score at 18. With the score tied at 20, Kortney Robinson (Pleasant Grove, Utah/Pleasant Grove) had a kill to give GU a one-point edge before serving the Hoyas to four straight points and a 25-20 second set victory.
The Hoyas took control of the third set early and cruised behind four kills from Dorismond and three from Kiersten McKoy (Oakland, Calif./Bishop O'Dowd) in a 25-11 victory. With the Hoyas up by one point, 5-4, Rezin served Georgetown to six straight points, before McKoy served the team to another 4-0 run to take a 17-8 lead. Robinson finished an Ashley Malone set to seal the set and match for the Hoyas in their first game of the UNC-Greensboro Tournament.
Georgetown will take on host UNC-Greensboro on Friday night at 7 p.m. before meeting NC State and High Point on Saturday.
