Volleyball Ends Road Trip with 3-0 Loss at Syracuse

Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University volleyball team lost a 3-0 contest to Syracuse this afternoon at Manley Field House. Georgetown owns an overall 4-16 slate with a 0-5 mark in BIG EAST Conference play while the Orange improve to 11-9 overall and 2-3 in league action. Game scores were 15-30, 29-31, 18-30.
Junior Katherine Niesen (Gainesville, Fla./Eastside) led the team with 10 kills and a .500 hitting percentage while sophomore Dana Dumas (Nokomis, Fla./Pine View) tallied nine kills followed by sophomores Kiersten McKoy (Oakland, Calif./Bishop O'Dowd and Jessica Hardy (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Mira Costa) who had identical seven-kill, .263 performances.
The Orange came off to a roaring start hitting .565 on 15 kills in 23 attempts while the Hoyas hit .097.
In game two, Georgetown stayed close to Syracuse and took its first lead of the game at 19-18 behind the serve of junior Caitlin Boland (Naperville, Ill./Benet Academy). The Hoyas extended the lead to two (21-19) with a kill from sophomore Kortney Robinson (Pleasant Grove, Utah/Pleasant Grove) and an errant SU play. As the two teams battled for points, Syracuse strung together three-consecutive kills to take a 25-24 lead. Both teams traded points but SU held the lead and capitalized on an errant GU play to win game two.
Game three saw an energized effort from Syracuse as they took a quick 15-5 lead. The Blue and Gray could not keep up as Syracuse hit .389 in game three while the Hoyas hit .229 on 14 kills.
The Hoyas return to the friendly confines of McDonough Arena on Friday, October 12 when they host Pittsburgh for a noon BIG EAST Conference match.
