Final Stats

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Georgetown University volleyball team (13-16, 3-10 BIG EAST) could not hold off No. 24 Notre Dame (19-4, 13-0 BIG EAST), as the Hoyas fell to the Fighting Irish, 3-0 (22-25,20-25,19-25) on Friday night at the Joyce Center. Kortney Robinson (Pleasant Grove, Utah/Pleasant Grove) had a double double, leading the Hoyas with 12 kills and 10 digs.

Tory Rezin (Morris, Ill./Morris) had 16 digs to move 16 digs away from tying the program record for most in a season. Sara Manley (Dove Canyon, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic) had 11 kills and a team leading .364 hitting efficiency, while Ashley Malone (San Jose, Calif./St. Francis) had 32 assists.

Georgetown took an early lead in the first set, as a service ace from Courtney Cohen (Tampa, Fla./Berkeley Prep) and consecutive kills from Manley helped GU open a 5-2 lead. ND would not let the Hoyas extend the lead far, retaking the lead at 8-7. The teams would trade leads throughout the first set before a kill from Christina Kaelin and an ace from Serenity Phillips put the Hoyas behind 23-21. A GU timeout could not stop ND from scoring the final two points to take the set, 25-22.

Rezin opened the second set with an ace, but Notre Dame would use an 8-2 run to take control. GU would battle back from the five-point deficit, tying the match at 15, before a Robinson kill and ND attack error gave the Hoyas a 17-16 lead, its first lead since 2-1. The Hoyas were unable to hold off the Irish, as Notre Dame went on another 8-3 run to close the match at 25-20.

GU opened the third set strong behind two early aces from Vanessa Dorismond (Cary, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons), as Georgetown led by as many as three. Like in the first two sets, ND rallied back taking the lead for good at 14-13. The Hoyas were able to keep the set close for a while, despite hitting -.061, but Phillips would serve the Irish to their last six points, sealing the set at 25-19 and the match at 3-0.
