WASHINGTON - Georgetown University volleyball's Lindsay Wise (Raleigh, N.C./Raleigh Charter) has been named the 2012-13 American Eagle Outfitters BIG EAST Institutional Female Scholar-Athlete when the conference's Academic Affairs Committee announced its honors on Wednesday morning.
"We are extremely proud of Lindsay and her accomplishments," Head Coach Arlisa Williams said. "She epitomizes "student-athlete". I am thrilled that Lindsay's academic accomplishments have been recognized by the Big East Conference and CoSIDA. She should be proud of herself."
The senior captain is a four-year starter at middle blocker, and has excelled on the court, as well as in the classroom during her time on the Hilltop. Wise has totaled 866 kills and 395 total blocks during her four year career. Her work in the classroom has been just as impressive.
The biochemistry major and pre-med student maintains a 3.80 grade point average. She is currently working on her senior thesis, which involves helping a Ph.D. candidate characterize and solve the crystal structures for several enzymes involved in the methylation of outer membrane proteins in Rickettsia Prowazekii, the bacteria that causes epidemic Typhus.
For her work on the court and in the classroom, Wise was named to the Capital One Academic All-District First Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) in November 2012.
Thirty student-athletes (one male and one female from each of the BIG EAST's 15 member institutions) will be named as the winners of the American Eagle Outfitters BIG EAST Institutional Scholar-Athlete Scholarships. The conference also names male and female American Eagle Outfitters BIG EAST Basketball Scholar-Athletes of the Year and an American Eagle Outfitters BIG EAST Football Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
