WASHINGTON – Georgetown Volleyball Head Coach Arlisa Williams has announced the addition of two student-athletes to the roster. Casey Speer (Durham, N.C./Riverside) and Terese Cannon (Pittsford, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) will both join the Hoyas in the fall as members of the Georgetown Class of 2018.
Both Speer and Cannon were recognized by prepvolleyball.com as a high honorable mention recruiting class.
“We are extremely excited that Terese and Casey will be joining the Georgetown Volleyball Family,” Williams said. “On the court they add depth and versatility while, off the court, they are very talented students and are of great character. A coach couldn't ask for more. I believe that the experience that Terese and Casey bring will help us move forward.”

Durham, N.C. | Riverside High School
Speer comes to the Hilltop after four years of varsity volleyball at Riverside High School. She started as the team’s libero for the first three years before becoming the primary setter as a senior. A two-time captain, Speer helped lead Riverside to a 26-2 record in 2013. She was named to the all-conference team in each of her first three seasons before being named the PAC-6 Player of the Year after her senior year. She was voted as Riverside’s best defensive player in each of her first three years as well as the team’s MVP as a junior and senior.
Williams on Speer: “Casey is a hard-working libero/defensive specialist who knows and loves the game. She spent last summer training with the USA Youth National A2 Team and did an excellent job in Colorado Springs, stepping up her game even more. Not only is she good with the first contact, Casey set for her high school and led them to the state tournament this past fall. That versatility and her willingness to do whatever is needed will make us better.”

Cannon will put on the Hoyas uniform this fall after starting for all four years at Our Lady of Mercy. A two-time nominee for the New York Gatorade Player of the Year, Cannon was named a National High School Junior of the Year finalist as well as to the All-American First Team in 2012. She helped lead her high school squad to a NYSPHSAA State AA Championship in 2012 as well as appearances in the finals in 2011 and 2013. In all three years Cannon was selected to the NYS Championship All-Tournament Team, including being named Tournament MVP in 2012. She was also an All-State First Team selection in 2011 and 2013 while making the second team in 2012. Off the court, Cannon was one of eight student-athletes nationally selected as a 2014 Academic All-American.
Williams on Cannon: “Terese is a true 6-3 six rotation outside hitter. In my time at Georgetown, we have never had a player with her size and volleyball IQ on the pin. She has been trained at a very high level and her experience playing beach volleyball only adds to her arsenal.”
