WASHINGTON - Head Coach Arlisa Williams has announced the addition of Sarah Gustin to the Georgetown Volleyball coaching staff. Gustin comes to the Hilltop after spending the past three seasons as the head coach at Point Loma Nazarene University (PLNU) in San Diego.
"I am thrilled to have someone of Sarah's caliber joining the Hoya Volleyball coaching staff. With 12 years of coaching experience under her belt, Sarah brings a wealth of knowledge at a variety of levels. She is a proven winner whether you look to her collegiate playing days at Michigan State or her four years as a head coach. Sarah will add significant value to our program as we continue to build our program and chase championships."
At PLNU, Gustin assisted in the athletic program's transition from the NAIA to NCAA DII while also serving as the Assistant Athletic Director for Academic and Student Affairs and the Senior Woman Administrator (SWA). On the court, she compiled a 60-34 record over her three seasons, including a 30-7 mark in 2013 where the Sea Lions won the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Championship and Gustin was named the Pacific West Conference co-Coach of the Year. The Sea Lions also advanced to the NAIA national championships in 2011, Gustin's first year, when the team finished with a 20-10 overall mark.
Before PLNU, Gustin served as an assistant coach at Indiana University for three seasons. Her duties for the Hoosiers included recruiting coordinator, managing all aspects of recruiting, in addition to overseeing the Hoosiers' defensive strategies and helping develop and implement game plans. In her time at Indiana she worked with 14 Big Ten All-Academic selections, eight Big Ten Players of the Week and the program's first-ever All-American.
Gustin has also coached at the collegiate level at College of Charleston, where the Cougars won the Southern Conference Championship in 2003, 2005, and 2006, and Cal Poly.
Internationally, Gustin served as an assistant coach on the USA Volleyball Junior National A2 team in 2006, as well as an assistant coach on the USA BIP Global Challenge team that played in Pula, Croatia, in 2007.
As a player, Gustin competed at Michigan State, spending four seasons on the team (1997-00). She earned All-Big Ten and Academic All-Big Ten honors in her final three seasons for the Spartans.
"I am grateful and humbled by the opportunity to work at Georgetown University and to be a part of the volleyball program," Gustin said. "I am eager to work with the student-athletes and Coach Williams to continue the great work they have done and to push forward in our quest to win a BIG EAST conference championship."
