Aug. 7, 2013
WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's volleyball team and women's rowing squad were among the 24 teams to be recognized with 2012-13 BIG EAST Team Academic Excellence Awards, for having the highest collective grade-point averages in their respective conference sport.
This is the third consecutive season the women's rowing squad has earned the Team Academic Excellence Award, with a program-high 41 student-athletes earning individual BIG EAST All-Academic Team recognition. Earlier this summer, 14 members of the women's rowing program earned 2013 Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Scholar-Athletes.
For the women's volleyball program, the BIG EAST Team Academic Excellence Award comes as one of many to celebrate the squad's success in the classroom. This week, Head Coach Arlisa Williams' team earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award. Senior captain Lindsay Wise, was also named the 2012-13 BIG EAST Institutional Female Scholar-Athlete in addition to being named Capital One Academic All-District First Team. The team also had 11 student-athletes named to the BIG EAST All-Academic Team.
Georgetown was one of 10 conference schools to earn a BIG EAST Team Academic Excellence Award and one of eight to earn more than one award.
The winners were chosen based on the 2012-13 grade-point average of each student-athlete who appeared on an institution’s roster as of the last contest of the championship segment in each conference-sponsored sport.
