Hoyas Continue Non-Conference Play with Road Trip to North Carolina

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's volleyball team will travel to Winston-Salem, N.C., this weekend to play in the Deacon Invitational, hosted by the Wake Forest University Demon Deacons.
Georgetown opened the season at the DC Challenge and faced the American University Eagles and the George Mason University Patriots. The Hoyas dropped the Patriots in three-straight sets on Friday, but fell to the Eagles the following day, three sets to one. The set scores against Mason were 25-17, 25-22, 27-25. The scores against the Eagles were 25-22, 27-25, 23-25, 25-22.
Key returning players Tory Rezin (Morris, Ill./Morris), Ashley Malone (San Jose,. Calif./St. Francis) and Lindsay Wise (Raleigh, N.C./Raleigh Charter) have been crucial in the first two matches for the Hoyas, as they've contributed 102 assists, 38 kills, 69 digs, 14 blocks, three assists and a .338 hitting percentage through the first two contests of the season.
Malone is also coming off of her first-career triple double against American, where she recorded 43 assists, 12 kills, 19 digs and a .450 hitting percentage.
Three of the team's four freshmen have made tremendous strides to aid the squad in its first two matches.
Dani White (Mission Viejo, Calif./Mission Viejo), Alex Johnson (Tampa, Fla./Plant), and MacKenzie Simpson (Greensboro, N.C./Northwest Guilford) have a cumulative 41 kills, 15 digs, seven blocks, one service and one assist, along with a .318 hitting percentage.
The Blue & Gray matchup against the University of North Florida on Friday, September 2 at 4:30 p.m. The team then has a doubleheader on Saturday against the University of Arkansas and host-institution Wake Forest.
