Hoyas Head to Delaware to Take on Blue Hens

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University volleyball team (6-2) travels to Newark, Del. to take on the University of Delaware Blue Hens (1-7) Tuesday, Sept. 11 at 7 p.m.

The Hoyas are coming off a weekend in which they suffered their first two losses of the season against Appalachian State and VCU at the VCU/Third Degree Sportswear Invitational in Richmond, Va. However, the Hoyas did earn an impressive win over Virginia at the tournament.

Sophomores Dani White (Mission Viejo, Calif.) and Alex Johnson (Tampa, Fla.) earned All-Tournament honors. Johnson was named to the Big East Weekly Honor Roll for her efforts as well.

This is the first meeting for the Blue & Gray against Delaware in head coach Arlisa Williams' tenure. The last meeting came in 2003 when the Hoyas won at home by a score of 3-1.

Delaware is currently 1-7 on the season, coming off an 0-3 weekend at the University of Delaware Invitational which they hosted. The Blue Hens lone win came against Lehigh on Aug. 31.

The Blue Hens are led by Senior Alissa Alker as well as standout freshmen Ariel Shonk and Katie Hillman.

Following Tuesday's match, GU is back in action for three matches in Charleston, S.C. at the Holiday Inn Charleston/Mt. Pleasant Tournament this weekend. They will return and play the home opener at McDonough Arena versus Liberty on Tuesday, Sept. 18.
