Volleyball to be Tested in Charleston, S.C. Tournament

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University volleyball team will play three matches this weekend in the Holiday Inn Charleston/Mt. Pleasant Tournament. They face host College of Charleston (5-4) Friday at 7 p.m., then Michigan State (9-0) and Presbyterian (2-10) Saturday at 10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
Returning from a disappointing showing on the road at Delaware, the GU will play this final tournament before opening up home play and beginning the BIG EAST conference schedule.
College of Charleston played in the Jayhawk Invitational at Kansas University this past weekend. They lost to Kansas and Arizona State but defeated Wyoming. Emily Neideffer was named to the All-Tournament team.
Michigan State enters the weekend with an undefeated record. Last weekend the Spartans went 3-0 at home at their Auto-Owners Insurance Spartan Invitational. Lauren Wicinski earned MVP honors, while Kori Moster and Amy Dentlinger were named to the All-Tournament team.
Presbyterian lost at Furman in three sets Wednesday night. Rachel Hall led with nine kills. Ashtin Frank recorded 25 assists while Mary Trimpe posted a team-leading 17 digs. The Blue Hose previously went 1-2 over the weekend at the University of North Florida Classic.
Georgetown has not faced any of this weekend's opponents since head coach Arlisa Williams took over the Hoyas.
The Blue & Gray will play their home opener at McDonough Arena on Tuesday Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. against Liberty.
