Fall is upon us as we move out of preseason tournaments into conference play. This past weekend we played our last preseason tournament at Northwestern and rounded out our non-league schedule with a home win against Howard on Monday.
Coming out of a successful weekend at the Georgetown Classic, we headed to Northwestern eager to take on the tough competition. We opened Friday against Northwestern, winning the first and third games but we ended up just short of a win, losing 15-12 in the fifth game. Although it was a tough loss, we were excited to play so well against such a great team. That evening we took on UCLA and started with a close first game which we lost 27-25 and ended up losing the match. Saturday we took the floor against a UVA, who served extremely well and challenged our hitters with a solid block. Despite the losses, we played with great promise for our upcoming season, and our senior setter Caitlin Boland was named to the all-tournament team.
After the tournament, we drove over to my aunt's house for a team dinner in her backyard. Upon learning that our last dinner in Chicago had been at Caitlin's aunt's incredible restaurant, my aunt was intent on impressing our sophisticated palettes. The dinner was incredible and we were even allowed to have dessert, which was a birthday cake for my mom! We got to spend a little more time with our parents and enjoy a nice meal with our teammates before we returned to Georgetown. Thanks Aunt Kathy!!
Looking ahead to this weekend, we're excited to start conference play at home with DePaul and Notre Dame. We're going into Big East play with a 7-6 record, which we hope to improve upon starting Friday against DePaul at 6 pm. Hope to see you all there!
