WASHINGTON – The Georgetown women’s volleyball team returns to the comforts of McDonough Arena this weekend for a pair of BIG EAST conference showdowns. The Hoyas will take on Marquette at 8 p.m. on Friday, before hosting DePaul at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
GU is coming off a tough loss in its conference opener at Villanova, losing to the Wildcats in a tightly contested four-set match. Dani White hit a match-high .241 with 12 kills, adding a season-best three solo blocks to the Hoyas’ cause. Lauren Saar was a kill away from her 11th double-double of her impressive sophomore season (9 kills, 12 digs).
Marquette visits Washington with an 8-4 overall record, facing some stiff competition along the way, including three top-15 teams. The Golden Eagles are coming off of a gritty 3-2 win over DePaul in each team’s conference opener last weekend, moving MU to 1-0 in league play.
Autumn Baily leads the Blue & Gold with 187 kills this season, while scooping 127 digs defensively. She earned BIG EAST Honor Roll accolades last week, behind teammate and conference Player of the Week, Elizabeth Koberstein. Koberstein has 32 kills on the season, and leads the team with 529 assists. She’s also added 92 digs and 23 blocks.
DePaul enters the weekend bout with a stellar 13-1 record, having just dropped its first match of the season against Marquette on Sept. 28, 3-2. During the Blue Demons’ conference-best 13-match win streak, DU swept nine opponents and was forced to a fifth set only twice.
Four Blue Demons have amassed 100 kills or more, led by Vesela Zapryanova’s 195 and Abbie Fleener’s 149. Zapryanova also is second on the squad with 140 digs, 30 fewer than libero Allyson Rooks’ team-high 170. Natalie Rizzo leads DU with 47 total blocks at the net this season.
