Volleyball Plays St. John's, Seton Hall on Road

Georgetown lost a pair of BIG EAST home matchups last weekend to Marquette, 25-14, 25-20, 25-21, and DePaul, 25-21, 29-27, 25-13.
GU’s trio of Lauren Saar, Alex Johnson and Dani White continue to lead the Hoya’s attack this season. Saar, a sophomore outside hitter, leads the team with 197 kills, averaging 3.13 kills per set. Saar had 8 and 15 kills last weekend, respectively, against Marquette and DePaul. Junior outside hitter Johnson has put together a solid junior campaign through the Hoyas 16 matches with 165 kills, 165 digs and s team-leading 19 service aces behind the line. White, a junior middle blocker, ranks second on the team with 169 kills and leads the Hoyas with 63 total blocks (12 solo). White is averaging exactly 1.00 blocks per set.
St. John’s plays Georgetown on Friday before hosting Villanova on Saturday. The Red Storm lost both their BIG EAST matches last weekend to Butler, 25-12, 25-9, 25-13, and Xavier, 25-11, 25-18, 34-32, 25-23, on the road.
St. John’s match against Xavier was a close one. After dropping their first two sets, the Red Storm came back to grab the long third set, 34-32, and hung in with Xavier in the fourth set, almost forcing a fifth set.
St. John’s Karin Palgutova, a sophomore outside hitter, leads their team with 286 kills (4.40 kills per set). Palgutova also has 18 service aces and 141 digs on the year. Sophomore libero Shawn-Lei Santos leads the Red Storm with 304 digs, which is over 4.5 digs per set.
Seton Hall takes on Villanova on Friday before hosting Georgetown on Saturday at 5 p.m.
The Pirates are led by sophomore middle blocker Amanda Hansen and sisters Stacey Manthrope, a junior outside hitter, and Shelbey Manthorpe, a junior setter. Hansen leads the team with 147 kills and is second on the team with 45 blocks (12 solo). Stacey Manthrope has 129 kills on the season while her sister, Shelbey, has 109 kills and 500 assists. Senior libero Alyssa Warren is averaging 4.56 digs per set with 283 to lead the squad.
Georgetown looks for their first BIG EAST win of the year when they take on St. John’s and Seton Hall on the road tis weekend. Friday’s match against St. John’s can be seen on ESPN3.
