WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University volleyball team (7-19, 1-12 BIG EAST) will take on conference opponent Connecticut (17-11, 8-5) Wednesday, Nov. 7 at McDonough Arena in their final home match of the season. The start time is 11:30 a.m.
The Hoyas went 0-2 over the weekend, losing to a pair of stout BIG EAST squads on the road. GU lost 3-0 to Cincinnati Friday, Nov. 2 and fell by the same margin at No. 12 Louisville Sunday, Nov. 4.
Sophomore middle blocker Annalee Abell (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay) had one of her strongest offensive outings of the season against Cincinnati, turning in a team-high 12 kills. Versus Louisville, Elizabeth Riggins (Mission Viejo, Calif./Santa Margarita) and Brooke Bachesta (Sammamish, Wash./Eastside Catholic) registered eight kills apiece. Whitney Jencks passed very effectively in both matches.
Connecticut is coming off a 1-1 weekend, also on the road. They lost 3-1 at Marquette Friday, but then swept Syracuse on their home floor Sunday. Senior outside hitter Mattison Quayle leads the Huskies in kills. Middle blocker Immanuella Anagu leads all BIG EAST freshmen with a .380 hitting percentage in conference matches.
At 8-5 in conference play, UConn sits in fifth place and has clinched a berth in the eight-team BIG EAST Tournament. The Huskies are one of two teams GU plays twice this season, the other being USF. Georgetown narrowly lost a Sept. 20 matchup in Storrs 3-2. The Hoyas won in 3-2 in 2011.
Following Wednesday's match, The Blue & Gray travel to Tampa, Fla. to play USF in their final match of the year.
