WASHINGTON – The Georgetown volleyball team (10-16, 4-9 BIG EAST) kicks off its season-ending road trip this weekend with a pair of conference matches at Butler and Xavier. The Hoyas will take on the Bulldogs in Indianapolis on Friday night at 7 p.m. before traveling to Cincinnati on Saturday to play the Musketeers at 4 p.m.

Last weekend, Georgetown dropped three home conference matches at McDonough Arena. Playing three of the top teams in the BIG EAST, the Hoyas lost contests with Xavier (3-2), Creighton (3-1) and Butler (3-0). Prior to Saturday’s match, the Hoyas celebrated its three seniors – Annalee Abell (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay), Brooke Bachesta (Sammamish, Wash./Eastside Catholic) and Whitney Jencks (Arlington, S.D./Arlington) – in a Senior Day ceremony. Freshman Ashlie Williams (Los Angeles, Calif./Marymount) set a career high on Friday with 17 kills and totaled 34 kills on the weekend with an impressive .329 hitting percentage. MacKenzie Simpson (Greensboro, N.C./North Guilford) averaged 4.58 digs per set over the three matches and registered a 2.3 passer rating.

Volleyball Drops Home Finale In Straight Sets To Butler
The Georgetown volleyball team (10-16, 4-9 BIG EAST) dropped a straight set match, 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-16), to Butler on Sunday afternoon in the final home match of the season at McDonough Arena. Butler (21-6, 7-4 BIG EAST) came into the match in fourth place in the conference, fighting for the final playoff position.

Volleyball Drops Tough Five-Setter To Xavier
Despite a career-high 17 kills from freshman Ashlie Williams (Los Angeles, Calif./Marymount), the Georgetown volleyball team (10-14, 4-7 BIG EAST) dropped an exciting, back-and-forth match, 3-2 (17-25, 25-23, 24-26, 25-21, 17-15), to Xavier in a BIG EAST match at McDonough Arena on Friday night. Xavier (17-9, 8-3 BIG EAST) came into the match tied for second in the conference with Creighton.

Lauren Saar (Richland, Mich./Plainwell) continues to lead Georgetown’s attack with a 3.20 kills per set average, ranking her eighth in the BIG EAST. Dani White (Mission Viejo, Calif./Mission Viejo) and Alex Johnson (Tampa, Fla./Plant) are also putting up big offensive numbers, averaging 2.74 and 2.48 kills per set, respectively. White also has a team-high 105 total blocks. Caitlin Brauneis (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) averages 10.00 assists per set and is also third on the Hoyas in total blocks (40). Simpson is tops on the team with 379 digs, with an average of 3.68 digs per set. 

Butler comes into Friday’s matchup with a 21-6 overall record and an 8-4 mark in the conference. The Bulldogs have clinched the fourth and final playoff spot in the BIG EAST Championships and are fighting to improve their seeding. Belle Obert leads Butler with 3.33 kills per set and also averages 2.07 digs and 1.11 blocks per set. Brooke Ruffolo leads the Bulldogs’ defense with 4.81 digs per set, ranking her third in the conference, while Mary Striedl contributes 2.71 and Morgan Peterson contributes 2.32.

Xavier enters the weekend with an 18-9 overall record and a 9-3 record in the BIG EAST, and is currently tied with Creighton for the second seed in the BIG EAST Championships later this month. The Musketeers have won six of their past seven matches. Abbey Bessler leads Xavier, and is fourth in the BIG EAST with 3.75 kills per set. Alex Smith, who also averages 2.64 kills per set, leads the conference with a .408 hitting percentage. Aubree Smith averages 10.76 assists per set while Sarah Brown leads Xavier defensively with 3.99 digs per set. Alex Blair is third in the conference with 134 total blocks on the season.

The Hoyas wrap up the regular season with a match at Creighton on Friday, Nov. 22 at 7 p.m.
