OMAHA, Neb. – The Georgetown volleyball team (10-18, 4-11 BIG EAST) takes the court for the final time this season as the Hoyas wrap up their season with a Friday night match at Creighton (19-7, 10-4 BIG EAST). First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET at the Blue Jays’ D.J. Sokol Arena.
Last weekend, the Hoyas dropped a pair of road conference matches, falling at Butler (3-0) and at Xavier (3-0). Junior Dani White (Mission Viejo, Calif./Mission Viejo) averaged 3.83 kills per set and 4.00 points per set, hitting at a .309 clip for the weekend while recording a match-high 13 kills on Saturday. Junior MacKenzie Simpson (Greensboro, N.C./Northwest Guilford) had a match-high 20 digs, average of 6.67 digs per set, against Xavier on Saturday.
Lauren Saar (Richland, Mich./Plainwell) continues to lead Georgetown’s attack with a 3.11 kills per set average, ranking her eighth in the BIG EAST. White and Alex Johnson (Tampa, Fla./Plant) are also putting up big offensive numbers, averaging 2.80 and 2.50 kills per set, respectively. White also has a team-high 107 total blocks. Caitlin Brauneis (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) averages 10.02 assists per set and is also third on the Hoyas in total blocks (41). Simpson is tops on the team with 405 digs, with an average of 3.72 digs per set.
Creighton enters Friday’s matchup having already clinched a berth in next weekend’s BIG EAST Championships. The Blue Jays are currently tied with Butler for third in the conference with a 10-4 mark in league play and a 19-7 overall record. Leah McNary leads Creighton’s offensive attack with 3.09 kills per set while Michelle Sicner averages 9.84 assists per set. Defensively, Kate Elman leads the Blue Jays with 3.99 digs per set and Kelli Browning leads the entire BIG EAST with 148 total blocks, an average of 1.49 per set.
