WASHINGTON - Georgetown University volleyball’s junior middle blocker Symone Speech (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest) earned her fourth-straight selection to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, as announced by the league office on Tuesday. The honor recognizes her performances in GU’s final two matches of the season over the weekend.
Speech again led the Hoyas as she notched double-figure kills in back-to-back five-set losses to Providence and then-No. 13 Creighton. She averaged 4.00 kills and 1.20 digs per set while hitting at a .303 clip. On Saturday versus the Friars, Speech recorded 15 kills, five digs, three service aces and three blocks. She followed that up with a match-high 25 kills to go with seven digs, three blocks and three assists against the Bluejays.
This is Speech’s fifth nod to the honor roll this season, and the ninth of her career. It is also Georgetown’s fifth honor roll selection.
Georgetown finished the 2017 season with an 8-22 overall record and a 2-16 mark in BIG EAST play. The Hoyas return 13 letterwinners, including five starters, in 2018.
