WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University track & field program sent a contingent of sprinters and field competitors up to New York City for the New Balance Invitational held at the Armory. The first day saw the Hoyas compete in a number of short sprints as the Blue & Gray was able to qualify more student-athletes to the BIG EAST Conference Championships held later this month.

Proving to be a strong competitor in the 400-meter dash, London Finley (Los Angeles, Calif./St. Mary's Academy) ran a 55.11 to qualify for the BIG EAST Championships while Deseree King (Oxon Hill, Md./Oxon Hill) finished with a time of 56.55, also a league championships qualifier.

In the women's 60-meter hurdles Diana Sainvil (Harksdale, N.Y./Woodlands) crossed the finish with a time of 9.01 to clock a BIG EAST qualifying time.

The men's 60-meter hurdles saw a trio of Hoyas post conference qualifying times with Justin Crawford (Gastonia, N.C./Ashbrook) run 8.15 while Kamryn Austin (Ewing, N.J./Ewing) and Biyerem Okengwu (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway Township) ran 8.18 and 8.24, respectively.

Hansel Akers (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) and Austin Perron (Philadelphia, Pa./High School of Engineering & Science) both qualified for the BIG EAST Championships in the men's 400-meter dash with times of 49.27 and 49.41, respectively.

Kadeem Hunter's (Indianapolis, Ind./Brebeuf Jesuit Prep) time of 22.42 in the men's 200-meter dash preliminary heats was enough to qualify the junior for the BE Championships while Crawford also qualified for the league championships running a 22.69.

The Hoyas continue competition tomorrow at the Armory in New York City.
