WASHINGTON - Two Hoyas left The SPIRE Institute today in Geneva, Ohio, as BIG EAST individual championships. All-American Chelsea Cox and Deseree King both won their first individual BIG EAST titles today as the Hoya women finished fifth as a team at the BIG EAST Championships while the men placed eighth. With 74 points, the women finished fifth behind Notre Dame (141), Connecticut (109), Villanova (98.5) and USF (84.5). On the men's side, Georgetown's 56 points were eighth behind Connecticut (142), Notre Dame (105.5), USF (89), Villanova (82), Louisville (65), Pittsburgh (60) and Syracuse (60).
All-American Chelsea Cox (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) won her first individual BIG EAST Championship today, previously being a part of two BIG EAST Championship relay teams. Cox ran 2:09.37 in the finals of the 800-meter run, edging out her competition from Notre Dame by more than three-tenths of a second. Also running in the event, Andrea Keklak (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury/Princeton) and Shanique Dasilva (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Ford) finished sixth (2:11.28) and seventh (2:11.45), respectively.
Deseree King (Oxon Hill, Md./Oxon HIll), the lone Hoya in the women's 500-meter final, ousted her competition with a time of 1:12.48, ahead of Villanova in second place with a time of 1:13.28. This is King's first individual BIG EAST title, she previously ran on a BIG EAST Champion relay team.
In the mile Katrina Coogan (Exeter, N.H./Phillips Exeter Academy), who has had a stellar indoor season thus far, finished second in the mile with a time of 4:40.75.
