JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - On the second day of the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field East Preliminary Championships held at Hodges Stadium on the campus of the University of North Florida, the Georgetown track & field team advances two more athletes to nationals after already qualifying two athletes in the men's 10,000-meter run the night before. All-American Chelsea Cox (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) and London Finley (Los Angeles, Calif./St. Mary's Academy) both punched their tickets to the NCAA Championships held at Drake Stadium in two weeks.

Cox was the first of the day to clinch a spot at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Des Moines June 6-9. Cox competed in the women's 800-meter quarterfinals today in the second of three heats. The top three from each heat as well as the next three fastest times advanced to the semifinals at Drake University. Cox, starting the race in lane seven, moved into the top three following the stagger and made a move to hold second place through the final turn. On the home straight, Cox was outkicked by some of the field but stayed strong through the finish to time in at 2:06.12 and solidified her spot in the semifinals on time with the second-fastest, non-auto time.

Finley continues a spectacular senior season as she advances to the semifinals of the women's 400-meter hurdles at the NCAA Championships for the first time in her career. Finley ran 57.88 to take second place and automatically qualify for the semifinals of her event. Finley was second to Kendra Harrison of Clemson in her heat and ran the fifth-fastest time over all three heats.

Toby Ulm (Marlborough, United Kingdom/St. John's School & Community College) fell just shy of qualifying for the semifinals of the men's 400-meter hurdles in Des Moines. Ulm ran 50.89 to finish fifth in his heat, which was much faster than the first. Ulm awaited the results from the third and final heat to determine his outcome. A fast third heat just pushed Ulm out of contention for the semis as the last mark in on time was 50.83, just six-hundredths of a second faster than Ulm. Ulm's time also bested the three automatic qualifiers from the first heat.

In the men's 400-meter dash quarterfinals, Kevin Wilson (Virginia Beach, Va./Landstown/George Mason) ran 47.33 to take ninth place in his heat.

Despite a hard-run last 800 meters Matt Howard (Blacksburg, Va../Blacksburg) will not advance to Des Moines in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase as he finished 10th in his heat with a time of 9:09.76.

The Hoyas continue at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships tomorrow at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla. The first event of the day will be at 6 p.m.
