10 Hoyas Qualify for BIG EAST Championships at Navy Lid Lifter

The Georgetown University Women’s Track & Field team competed at the Navy Lid Lifter in Annapolis, Md. on Thursday, December 6.  The Hoyas finished first in five of the events, and 10 Hoyas qualified for the BIG EAST Indoor Track & Field Championships with their results.

Georgetown athletes came in first place for five of the events at the meet.  Senior Tenille Stoudenmire (San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo) finished first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.85, ahead of four runners from Morgan State.  In the 800-meter run, freshman Rachel Paul (Famingville, N.Y./Sachem East) came in first place, with a time of 2:13.12, finishing ahead of Ketsia Dornevil of Delaware State.  Graduate student Andrea Keklak (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury/Princeton) finished first in the one-mile run, with a time of 4:53.97, leading five other Hoya runners.  A relay team of sophomore Natalie Englese (Cranford, N.J./Cranford), junior Deseree King (Oxon Hill, Md./Oxon Hill), Tenille Stoudenmire, and freshman Mirabel Nkenke (Orange, N.J./Immaculate Conception) came in first place in 4x400m relay, with a time of 3:53.03, beating out Morgan State.  A foursome of freshman Sarah Cotton (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand), junior Shanique Dasilva (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Ford), Andrea Keklak, and freshman Heather Martin (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) finished in first place in the 4x800m relay with a time of 9:44.44, besting Navy.


 

 

Stoudenmire, Paul, and Keklak all qualified for the BIG EAST Championships.  In addition, Deseree King, who came in second place in the 400-meter dash, qualified for the BIG EAST Championships with a time of 56.61.  In the one-mile run, sophomore Hannah Neczypor (North Royalton, Ohio/North Royalton), Sarah Cotton, Shanique Dasilva, and senior Meaghan Gregory (Burnt Hills, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) all qualified, with times of 4:56.65, 4:59.21, 4:59.24, 5:00.94, respectively.  In long jump, sophomore Bria Murray (Baton Rouge, La./St. Joseph’s Academy) finished third with a 5.49-meter mark, qualifying for the BIG EAST Championships.

The Georgetown Women’s Track & Field team will next compete at the Father Diamond Invitational in Fairfax, Va. on January 5, 2013.  The BIG EAST Indoor Track & Field Championships will be held on February 16, 2013 in Geneva, Ohio.
