WASHINGTON - The Georgetown women's indoor track & field team traveled to Lewisburg, Pa., for the Bucknell Invitational to open the season. The Hoyas put up strong performances across the board, specializing in middle distance.
Becca DeLoache (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park) and Shanique Dasilva (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Ford) spent the day running on each other's shoulders. In the women's 500-meter run, Deloache finished first overall with a time of 1:17.86, leading Dasilva in to a decisive second-place standing (1:18.04). Kristen Walsh (Stony Point, N.Y./North Rockland) rounded out the Hoya presence in the top four with a time of 1:19.94 for fourth place. The duo of DaSilva and Deloache finished second and third, respectively, with time times of 5:05.07 and 5:06.16 in the mile.
Georgetown continued to excel in the shorter distances with Deseree King (Oxon Hill, Md./Oxon Hill) and Mirabel Nkenke (Orange, N.J./Immaculate Conception) taking the top two spots in the women's 300-meter dash with times of 40.23 and 40.85, respectively.
The Georgetown track & field team opened the 2013-14 indoor season at the Navy Invitational on Friday night in Annapolis, Md. The Hoya men showed their strength in the middle distance and distance with five first-place finishes on the day including four individual races and one relay.
Both the men's and women's teams will take the remainder of the calendar year off and return to action on Saturday, January 11 at the George Mason Invitational, hosted by George Mason University in Fairfax, Va.
