WASHINGTON - Georgetown University track & field standout Paige Hofstad (New Braunfels, Texas/New Braunfels) was named the BIG EAST Conference Women’s Track Athlete of the Week on Tuesday as announced by the league. The honor comes after the program opened the 2018 portion of the season at the Nittany Lion Challenge, hosted by Penn State, in State College, Pennsylvania on Saturday. The meet was highlighted by three event titles across both squads.
In her first collegiate 3,000-meter run, Hofstad crossed the line with a time of 9:34.00, a time that currently ranks among the top 20 in the nation and fifth in the conference. It was the fastest 3,000m time from the league over the weekend as Hofstad won her event.
This is the first BIG EAST weekly award of Hofstad’s career and the second of the season for the Blue & Gray as All-American Spencer Brown (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) claimed the men’s honor in December.
Both squads will be back in action at the end of the month when they travel to New York for the Columbia Challenge on Friday and Saturday, January 26-27. The meet will be held at the historic New Balance Track & Field Center at the Armory in the Washington Heights neighborhood of New York City.
