Jan. 22, 2014

WASHINGTON - Track & field standouts Katrina Coogan (Exeter, N.H./Phillips Exeter Academy) and Ryan Manahan (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) picked up the BIG EAST Female and Male Track Athlete of the Week honors today, respectively, following strong performances at the Nittany Lion Challenge, hosted by Penn State University in State College, Pa., last Saturday. It is the first week the honors were doled out by the Conference office.

Coogan, an All-American for the Hoyas, won the 800-meter race, setting a new meet record and running the third-best time in the country thus far. Coogan's time of 2:08.23 tops the BIG EAST performance list this season and eclipsed the previous record (2:08.89) set in 2010 by former Hoya All-American Emily Infeld.

Manahan's time of 1:49.88 was enough to take fourth at the Nittany Lion Challenge and is also the fourth-best time in the country right now. He owns the top time in the BIG EAST Conference and led a trio of Hoyas to the top three times in the league. Manahan bested sophomore teammate Cole Williams (San Francisco, Calif./Occidental College) whose time of 1:50.46 is the sixth-best mark in the country right now.

The Hoyas will return to action at home on Friday, January 24 to host the Hoya Spiked Shoe Invitational at the Hanley Center for Athletic Excellence on the campus of Georgetown Preparatory School in Bethesda, Md.
