WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University cross country team was honored with seven student-athletes named to the 2011 Division I Cross Country All-Academic list, released by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association late last week. Four men and three women were honored with the plaudit and aided the BIG EAST Conference with the more nods on the list (25) than any other conference.

On the men's side the quartet of Hoyas to receive the accolade also happened to be the top four finishers at the NCAA Championships. Mark Dennin (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyerstown), Alex Lundy (Littleton, Colo./Heritage/Maryland), Andrew Springer (Westerly, R.I./Westerly) and T.C. Lumbar (Edina, Minn./Edina) all made the list after leading the Blue & Gray to a 17th-place team finish at the championships.

For the women, a trio of Hoyas earned the plaudit as Claire Richardson (St. Paul, Minn./The Blake School) made the list after finishing second for the Hoyas. Emily Jones (Harvard, Mass./Bromfield), the third Hoya to cross the finish line and Katrina Coogan (Exeter, N.H./Phillips Exeter Academy), the lone freshman point scorer for GU also made appearances on the list. The Hoyas won the 2011 NCAA Cross Country Championships in November. It was the first national championship in program history.

The BIG EAST Conference led the men's list with 10 honorees while it shared the lead with the Big Ten Conference on the women's side with most nods (15). Totaling 25 student-athletes on the combined lists.

Georgetown is in the midst of the indoor track & field season and continues competition at the BIG EAST Championships on February 18-19 held at the Armory in New York City.
