NEW YORK - The Georgetown track & field team returns to the familiar confines of New Balance Track & Field Center at the Armory in New York City for the 2014 BIG EAST Track & Field Championships, a two-day meet held at the historic track facility. The conference championship returns to the famed venue just one week after it played host to the Millrose Games.
The Hoyas look to take advantage with the new format of the league to a more succinct group of teams with elite runners among all distances. The Blue & Gray, steeped in a rich tradition in the middle distance and distance, will look to continue on their previous success and score as many points as possible with multiple entrants in 800m, 1,000m and the mile as well as in the 3,000m and 5,000m. An elite track program through and through, Georgetown will also rely on experienced sprinters to score high in the shorter distances.
As always, the relays will play a big role in the championships with a preview of the men's distance medley relay just one week ago at the Iowa State Classic with Villanova, Georgetown and Butler taking the top three spots. The women's distance medley relay will also pit the Hoyas against the Wildcats of Villanova, two institutions boasting some of the top times in the country currently.
The events start on Friday at 10 a.m., beginning with the men's mile trials. The trials will extend through the afternoon with the first event for points (men's 5,000-meter run, followed by women's) starting at 1:30 p.m. Friday will end with the men's and women's distance medley relays and the meet will continue again on Saturday at 4:40 p.m. All events on Saturday will be finals and for points. The last events start at 8:20 p.m., with the men's 4x400-meter relay followed by the women's 4x400.
Live results will be available through the official website for The Amory.
