JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Georgetown University track & field team arrived in Jacksonville, Fla., with a record 29 student-athletes competing at the 2014 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships - East Preliminary, being held Thursday, May 29 through Saturday, May 31, hosted by the University of North Florida. With 29 student-athletes in tow, the Hoyas boast both the depth of the program as well as varied strength as the Blue & Gray span 13 different events over the three-day championship.

Thursday's events start with All-American Deseree King (Oxon Hill, Md./Oxon Hill) competing in the women's 400-meter hurdles first round.

Immediately following that event, the Hoyas total seven entrants in the men's and women's 1,500-meter first round combined with three men and four women competing. The women will look to the experience of veteran All-American Rachel Schneider (Dover, N.H./St. Thomas Aquinas), who is competing in the third of four heats. The men are relying on youth with the trio of All-Americans Ahmed Bile (Annandale, Va./Annandale) and Amos Bartelsmeyer (St. Louis, Mo./Saint Louis Country Day) as well as Michael Lederhouse (Glen Ellyn, Ill/Glenbard West), who all had breakout seasons for the Hoyas.

All-American Amanda Kimbers (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) will compete in the first round of the 100-meter dash on Thursday, the first of two events the graduate student will compete in over the three-day championship.

The Blue & Gray will be seen throughout the 800-meter first round heats as five women and two men will compete for GU. The women will look to All-American Andrea Keklak (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury/Princeton), who has had a breakout season, as well as All-American Sabrina Southerland (New York, N.Y./Benjamin N. Cardozo), who along with Keklak come in to the prelim with two of the best times in the east. The men will rely on the expertise of All-Americans Billy Ledder (Washington, D.C./Gonzaga), who competed in the 800m at the indoor national championships, and Ryan Manahan (Marcelluls, N.Y./Marcellus), who ran the 800-meter leg of the distance medley relay at indoor nationals.

The night will end with the only semifinal event on the track on Thursday as the 10,000-meter run commences to determine who will make it to Eugene, Ore., for the NCAA Championships. All-American Andrew Springer (Westerly, R.I./Westerly) and Brian King (Sonoma, Calif./Cardinal Newman) will compete for the men with Springer looking for a return to the finals site as he doubled up in the 5,000m and 10,000m just one year ago. On the women's side, the Hoyas will look to Kirsten Kasper (Andover, Mass./North Andover) and Joanna Stevens (Blacksburg, Va./Blacksburg), seasoned veterans for the Hoyas.

The Blue & Gray total eight (4 women, 4 men) events with multiple entrants, including the women's 800-meter run, where five Hoyas have qualified for the prelims.

Georgetown spans 13 different events between the men and women and extends from the sprints through the distance, in addition to specialized events such as the steeplechase and hurdles, as well as a field competitor.

The 29 student-athletes traveling to Jacksonville, Fla., marks a record for competitors competing at one of the two preliminary sites of the NCAA Championships. It was the 2010 outdoor season that marked the NCAA transitioning from a four-site regional championship leading to the championships to a two-site preliminary round.

The 2014 NCAA Championships East Prelim determines who will advance to Eugene, the finals site of the NCAA Championships, held June 11-14 and hosted by the University of Oregon.
