Six Hoyas Named Track & Field All-Americans

Dylan Sorensen is one of six athletes to earn All-America accolades.

June 18, 2014

WASHINGTON - Fresh off a return from TrackTown, USA, the Georgetown track & field team picked up six All-America accolades, doled out by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. The official announcement came after the four-day championship with the top eight from each event earning first team, spots 9-16 earning second team and all participants who made it to Eugene, Ore. - site of the 2014 NCAA Track & Field Championships - receiving honorable mention accolades.

The six honorees include three men and three women with three receiving second team honors and the remaining trio earning honorable mention.

Rachel Schneider (Dover, N.H./St. Thomas Aquinas) earned her eighth All-America certificate following a ninth-place finish in the women's 1,500-meter finals. An illustrious career on the Hilltop was punctuated with her best individual finish of her career at the outdoor championships.

Andrew Springer (Westerly, R.I./Westerly) finished 13th in the men's 10,000-meter finals, matching his 2013 performance. Springer will leave the Hilltop as a three-time All-American with the other two honors coming from the 2013 season when he doubled up in the 5,000m and 10,000m, earning second team honors in both.

Max Darrah (South Yarmouth, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth Regional) narrowly missed advancing to the finals of the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase for the second-consecutive year, but his performance was among the top 16 giving him second team honors in the event for the second-straight year.

Dylan Sorensen (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville) also competed in the men's steeplechase semifinals but also missed the finals by a small margin. Sorensen earns an honorable mention nod, adding to his second team honor from the 2013 season in the same event.

Andrea Keklak (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury/Princeton) ended up in a tough heat of the women's 800-meter semifinals, failing to advance to the finals of the talent-filled event. Keklak's honorable mention nod adds to her first team accolades from the indoor championships this season, competing in the same event.

Chelsea Cox (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) competed in the women's 800-meter semifinals for the fourth-consecutive year. Though her time did not earn her a coveted spot in the finals, she did pick up another honorable mention accolade, totaling eight All-America nods during her tenure.

Georgetown's trio of second-team nods added to the BIG EAST Conference's 10 total student-athletes named to the first or second team. Villanova led the conference with four distinctions, followed by Georgetown (3), Providence (2) and Butler (1).

Despite the NCAA season coming to an end, members of the Georgetown track & field team will continue to compete individually throughout the summer.
