WASHINGTON - Georgetown track & field standout Andrea Keklak (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury/Princeton) was named to the Capital One Academic All-America Track & Field / Cross Country Second Team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) today.
Keklak had a breakout indoor season that put her on the national stage as one of the best 800-meter runners in the country. The sociology major continued that success through the outdoor season as she qualified for the 800-meter semifinals at the NCAA outdoor championships. She finished fourth overall in the indoor 800m at indoor nationals, earning First Team All-America honors and achieved honorable mention status for her efforts during the outdoor season.
This is the first track & field / cross country national academic accolade since 2011 when former Hoya and All-American Renee Tomlin earned third team honors.
Seven current and former Georgetown track & field student-athletes are currently in Sacramento, Calif., for the 2014 USA Track & Field (USATF) Outdoor Championships, held through Sunday, June 29, at Sacramento State's Hornet Stadium - site of the 2000 and 2004 U.S. Olympic Trials.
Since the NCAA adopted the preliminary round setup in 2010, the Hoyas have sent student-athletes to the finals site in the women's 800m every year - Keklak's presence kept the streak going through the 2014 season
